by RICHARD CRANE
Original Music by MILTON REAME JAMES
| Cast: | A minimum of 5 (3m, 2f) which can expand to over 20. |
| Suggested Age Range: | 11 upwards - probably best with a limited spread. Also works very well with an adult cast. |
| Approx. Running Time: | 100 minutes [ + interval] |
| Music: | 4 songs ( + some "snatches" ); one soloist (f); piano or small band. |
| Set: | Minimal - a blend of law court and Music-Hall within which other situations are portrayed. |
| Synopsis: | The famous murder in
1910 by Dr. Crippen of his wife, a Music-Hall artiste, followed by his escape
on board ship with his secretary, disguised as a boy, and their arrest on
arrival in America as the result of a message sent by wireless telegraphy. The story is told as continuous, lively and comic burlesque, echoing the way it was perceived by the public at the time and since, yet showing understanding for the trapped but not uncommon situations in which all three principal characters found themselves. |
